NYC airport transportation
Can anyone assist me in getting from LaGuardia to Manhattan on a Wednesday in 2 weeks. I've been told that getting into Manhattan is a bear and that subway would be the best mode of transportation. Is this true? Also, anyone have any idea how long security is taking out at JFK? I'll be leaving on a Sunday and any help would be most appreciated.

The subway may be the cheapest ($1.50), but it sure is far from the easiest. The most practical way in terms to convenience and price is probably the bus, which, I believe costs in the area of $11-13 one way from Laguardia. It leaves you off in midtown. Where are you staying? If there are two or more of you, then definitely take a cab.
As for leaving from JFK on a Sunday, I would guess that lines would be long on that day and that the later in the day, the longer the lines.

Public transportation (train, bus) is going to take a minimum of one hour to midtown. You would most likely need a cab or a train or bus to get to your final destination extending the trip beyond an hour. If there are two traveling a taxi would be the way to go. No traffic - trip will take 20 to 25 minutes to midtown. Under most circumstances cab trip would not take more than 40 minutes.

I suggest the shuttle bus (assuming you are traveling solo). IIRC it costs $10 and stops at Grand central and also Port Authority. There may be a bus that does some major hotel stops as well. Unless you're coming in or out of the city at a peak rush hour travel time the bus trip should take no more than 45 minutes.

I took a cab in from LaGuardia to Midtown 10 days ago at mid-day. It was the fastest ride in I've ever had! No wait at the midtown tunnel. Traffic is reduced because cars must have minimum of 2 passengers. Most trucks are inspected at the tunnel, but few cabs. Cab fare: $17.50 + $3.50 toll + tip. Going back to LaGuardia on Sunday was equally fast. Lightest tunnel traffic I've ever seen.
