We are going to be visiting NYC over Memorial Day weekend. We are excited to hear that it's Fleet week and I would like to know what kind of events take place. Can anyone help?

Fleet Week is when different boats come in from all over the place and you can do tours on the different boats. It's definitely great to see. You can go see all of the boats at the Intrepid Museum. Have a good time.

Fleet Week is a chance to meet lots of cute young sailors (in their white uniforms) and buy them drinks! I don't know of any specific events attached to Fleet Week except I think that that you can tour some of their ships.

Also, on May 24th there will be a 120th Birthday party for the Brooklyn Bridge, complete with fireworks.

We were in Manhattan last year on Memorial Day/Fleet Week and by coincidence, we will be there this year also. Meeting and talking to the young Navy men and woman was a very pleasant experience, and this year will be very be poignant. They were welcomed everywhere we saw them, bars, restaurants etc.. and people, including ourselves, were talking the time to talk to them, something I have never done in the past.

Suzanne, do you have more info on the Bridge birthday celebration? Do you know what time the fireworks begin? We will be having dinner at the Blue Water Grill in Union Square, where would be the closest place to see them?

Women should wear slacks if they tour submarines or the boats. The sailors are very polite and wait at the foot of the stairs to help women visitors as they descend.
