NY Hotels - Good, Bad or ????
Any information on these hotels in New York would be much appreciated.
Ramada New Yorker; Belvedere; Roosevelt; Days Inn -NYC; Bentley.
The Belvedere and Roosevelt are my first choices.
If anyone has stayed in any of these hotels could they give me some feedback PLEASE. I've looked up Fodor's reviews but only found the Ramada New Yorker. Leaving for NY very soon so would appreciate a quick reply, if possible. Thanks in anticipation.

Den: Not familiar with the Belvedere but looks good from their website. If you are looking for a theater district hotel, it looks fine. I would steer clear of the New Yorker and the Days Inn, definitely a cut or two below the others. The Roosevelt is a big old hotel with a great location, on Madison Avenue. It covers an entire city block and was fully renovated a couple of years ago. Having said that, your first choices are the ones to go with. If the price is similar, I would go with the Roosevelt, I tend to like large hotels, and the location is much more businesslike and upscale that the Bentley which is located between 8th and 9th Avenues. If you choose the Roosevelt, ask for a room facing Madison Avenue, much brighter than the other views, although if you are a light sleeper the other sides may be more quiet.
Enjoy your stay.

We stayed at the Roosevelt this past Spring. It was great. You can't bet the location and the room was fairly large by NYC standards. Clean too. The lobby is magnificent. It's about as close as you can get to Grand Central Station and tons of things are just a short walk away. I would stay there again. Enjoy your trip

Den: Just remembered the New York Helmsley Hotel on East 42nd Street was offering $129 per night specials on Quikbook. The hotel is a 1980's high rise and just a couple of blocks from the Roosevelt. Worth a look. Also checkout the Helmsley Parklane on Central Park South, sometimes offers real good deals also.
Best of Luck and have a great time in NYC.

Frank,
Thanks for all your invaluable information. I'll check out the sites you suggest but I think, as time is of the essence, I will go for the Roosevelt. I posted this message on the Europe site as well and most of the people who have replied have said nice things about the hotel. Many thanks again for your info. and I will try to enjoy my time in NY although recent events have taken a lot of the gloss away from the occasion.

Den: There is still plenty of shine on the apple. If you stay clear of the WTC area, you won't see much difference in other parts of the city. I beleive you will enjoy the Roosevelt and with close proximity to Grand Central Station, the Chrysler Building, Rockefeller Center, 5th and Madison Avenue, Times Square, etc., you can't go wrong, assuming you have gotten a good rate. Enjoy.

Dennis: $120 sounds like a very good rate. It's not a luxury hotel, but it's an excellant choice for all the reasons previously mentioned. If you have any further NYC questions, feel free to ask, I work right in the area of the Roosevelt and am very familiar with the location.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

Recenly a group of us were sent to NYC for a convention. Half of us stayed at the Waldorf and the other half at the Roosevelt (both places at $179 per night). I stayed at the Waldorf and was very displeased with my tiny, dark, uncomfortable room but the desk clerks were very unhelpful. My fellow employees at the Roosevelt had lovely, larger, brighter rooms. Plus there is a good sandwich shop across the street from the Roosevelt, a great little deli/buffet next door, and of course the Grand Central Station choices a few feet away. Roosevelt!

Our family spent a week at the Belvedere in early October. We got it for $135/nt and really enjoyed our stay. It was a nice, clean room with microwave/fridge. The location is great with subway a block away and within walking distance of all major attractions, yet on a nice quiet side street. Big vote for the Belvedere!
