NY City hotels
Hi,
I'll be going to NYC in two weeks and have been evaluating several hotels on the various discount web sites in the $100-$150/night range. Preference is to be in a safe, Midtown area and close to public transportation (subway). The hotels I've narrowed down to based on my search are: the Bentley (500 East 52nd Street); the Salisbury (at 57th and 7th); the Roosevelt NY; the Lucerne; the Park Central; or the Hampshire Hotel and Suites midtown (47th and 7th).
Any comments -- positive or negative -- about any of these hotels would be appreciated. Or, any other suggestions in this price range are welcome.
Thanks.
John H

John check this hotel out. It is called Habitat Hotel 130 West 57th. It is between Park and Lexington. Just a couple of blocks from the Four Seasons. The location is great. For about $85.00 US (before taxes) you can have a room with a twin bed, tv, sink , closet. You have to go across the hall for showers. Toilets are in their own area. For about $125.00 USD you can have a room with a bathroom. I have stayed here and I love the location because I go to NYC alone to shop. Also the area is very very nice and pretty centrally located. I honestly have not stayed at those other hotels but just thought I would toss my two cents in...Good luck..

John: Try doing a search on each of the hotel names, there have been several threads on most of the hotels you mentioned. Note that the Bentley is on E. 62nd Street and York Avenue not at all convenient to subways or most of the typical midtown tourist attractions. Of those you mentioned, in my opinion, the Roosevelt and the Park Central are the most substantial and are well located.

The above suggestion - to do a search on this site - is a really good one. In the meantime, I can tell you that the Salisbury is a great place. It's right across the road from Carnegie Hall and very close to public transit. I used to stay there all the time, until they got too pricy; however, if you can get a good rate, I'd recommend it.

Thought I posted a reply, but none showed up. I stayed at the Roosevelt last Mayand was very satisfied. Good size room by NYC standards, had 2 double beds (many "doubles" in NYC are a single double bed in a room occupied by 2 people), clean, beautiful lobby, helpful concierge, excellent location-Grand Central Station is accross the street-ask the concierge to tell you where the entrance to GCS is-it's sort of hidden.
