November Trip Ideas

Hello Fellow Travellers,

I am looking for Trip ideas for November in USA. We live in orlando florida. Me and my wife are in our early 30s, We like being outside in nature as well as enjoy cities ( like being in nature more ) . We are looking to travel thanksgiving weekend as we have couple of days off. I know it would be crowded but can't do anything about it.
Budget is not an option, we would like to go a place which isnt too cold as we are not fan of cold weather.
we have already been to yosemite, grand canyon, arches, glacier, yellowstone and few other parks,
Few options

Boston - would it be too cold ?
New York
Denver ?
somewhere in texas ?
scottsdale ?
any other ideas are welcome

Check out Lake of the Ozarks (Missouri and Arkansas) It shouldn't be too cold and you might even catch the end of the autumn colors. It's a lot closer than some other places on your list if you wanted to drive.

I'm guessing that you would find Boston, NY, and Denver all too cold. Tucson could be a good choice.

Boston, New York and Denver are likely to be too cold. Phoenix/Scottsdale would be nice and you can fly there nonstop from MCO. You might also look at Joshua Tree National Park, available as an easy day visit from Palm Springs. You could fly into Palm Springs itself (with a plane change en route) or fly nonstop to LAX and drive a couple of hours east to PS. The Coachella Valley is terrific at that time of year.

Tucson and Southern Arizona are beautiful in November. There are National Parks and scenic natural areas to explore. Sabino Canyon and Saguaro NP( both East and West locations) , Mt.Lemmon are good destinations.Bring your passports for a day excursion to Nogales, Sonora for lunch.

I think the suggestions of both southern Arizona and the Palm Springs area are excellent. As the last two posters said, you should have beautiful weather (what we call "hiking weather" - low 70s) although caveat, we once went to Palm Springs for Thanksgiving and had some rain (not so much that we couldn't hike though)! Both places have a wide variety (price range and style) of hotels and restaurants.

What's your definition of "too cold"? Average temps for major cities are easy to google (Orlando hi/low in November is 78/59 whereas Boston is 52/38). Are you looking for something similar to Orlando?

Death Valley is nice at that time of year. Understand that if you go to a desert climate, it will be much drier than you're used to so you'll need to drink more water. It also gets colder than you'd expect when the sun goes down so be prepared to put on layers after sunset.

We are looking to travel thanksgiving weekend
1 day fly to (preparing, driving to airport. Then deplane, rent car, motel, eat)
1 day flying back (ditto)

2 days for touring by car. ?????????? really ??????

How about Cartagena, Columbia?
Very historic fort/city, friendly and very comfortable - we enjoyed it
Quickest flight is about 6 hours or private jet

On Thanksgiving weekend, I'd pick a place outside of the U.S. If you want to stay in the U.S., you'd better check lodging availability ASAP in destinations you're considering.

Or go to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Nice weather, beautiful architecture, great food, interesting art and handicrafts, lots of things to do.

Denver is probably out. While it can be very nice temperature wise around Thanksgiving in Denver itself, thirty miles further west and you will be in potentially winter. It could be nice but mostly likely it will be colder and a chance for snow. All the ski areas try to open by that weekend. Any hiking in the mountains will be out of the question because snow will be on the ground by that time -- or at least it should be.

If you are checking flights to Arizona, be sure to look at the SouthWest and JetBlue sites. They might not show up on places like Kayak or Expedia and often have lower fares.

Thank you everyone. We decided on San Jose for now. Planning to drive to yosemite, hopefully it wont be too cold
The tickets are on southwest so we can cancel
Alternatively, I am looking for flights to Arizona for Phoenix or Tucson in next couple of days as an alternate.

Visa - Russia was the hardest, but well worth the effort - highly recommend visiting that country.
Makes US look like a 3rd world especially elegant downtown Moscow

Country of Columbia has no Visa requirement for tourists under 90 days

I thought the OP was saying that he and his wife were on visas to work in the US and there are rules about traveling to another country while on those.

Also, not sure how Moscow made the list of recommendations - OP wants somewhere warm and has 4 days - Moscow is a loooong flight with average highs in the lower 30s.

New York Thanksgiving weekend is SOOOO crowded with the Thanksgiving parade and all - but also the start of a beautiful time of year. I'm in NJ 10 miles from the city - both of my daughters live in NYC.
Boston is getting pretty cold too - colder than here in NJ. It's raining in NJ right now, but pretty warm today. Tomorrow 57 day and 37 nights.
We're going to Arizona - going to see Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Scottsdale - trying to plan my trip now.

Do something totally different. Rent a car and drive up to the Grand Canyon and Route 66. It's weird and you'll do it once and never forget it.
