Not To Miss in February

We will be in NYC in February for the first time, partly for theater(staying near Times Square). What "not to miss" suggestions, tips, ideas, ( any new Off-Broadway shows?) can you share? Many posts emphasize warm footware-do Uggs hold up to the slush if waterproofed?
Thanks

If you'll be in NYC between the 12th and the 27th, you'll definitely want to experience The Gates in Central Park. Artists Christo and Jean-Claude have draped 7,500 saffron-colored gates over 23 miles of paths in the park.

The best low cost view of the gates will be fromthe roof of the Met- which is usually not open in winter, but will be for this event. Expect lines to be extremely long.

And - as long as you're paying the entrance fee - spend at least an afternoon there - if you check the web site you can pick the departments in which you're most interested - and see which docents will be lecturing that day.

nytraveler, I'm not sure what you mean by the "best low cost view" of The Gates. It doesn't cost anything to view them and/or walk through them. Do you mean be best low view of seeing them from above?

Howard- I am thinking nytraveler meant that rather than walking the length of the installment. you can view from overhead. The Met is my favorite museum, so I just assume visits tot he city include it, you can check hours for all museums online and exhibitions. I would think you'b be okay with the Uggs, treat a few times, a few days apart. Don't forget hats or earmuffs. It can get pretty windy.I saw Avenue Q on B'way, great fun, not for kids. off-broadway depends on what you like, The New Yorker is a great resource.

The Met will be open every day during The Gates showing except Monday, February 14. (Monday, February 21, is one of its free Monday holiday days. It'll doubtlessly be mobbed that day.)The roof of the Met will be open daily from 9:30-3:30. I would recommend getting there early!
