Northern Coast of CA in August
I am having trouble locating a place along the Northern Coast of California for a Saturday night stay in August (one night only). Most places require a two night minimum. We would like to be as near to the coast as possible. Somewhere like the Sea Ranch Lodge would be ideal (location, etc..), but the 2 night min. is a deal killer. We plan to visit Sonoma the rest of the week - hence the short stay and desire to not go too far up the coast. Thank you!

Since the north coast is a looooong drive for most folks, few want to stay only one night - and August is the busiest time of the year. So few decent places are willing to split up a weekend. By letting you book a Saturday-only they would probably lose a very lucrative Fri/sat booking.
So you have a few of options: add friday night; change your stay to sunday night; or change your plans and go inland into the wine country. You'll run into the same problems in Napa/Sonoma - but there are more hotels so you'd probably have better luck finding one willing.
But a nice place on/near the coast for a Sat. nite only - REALLY hard to find.

If you're willing to take your chances, you're likely to find a cancellation. Mendocino has a service for locating rooms: http://www.mendocino.com/mendocino_c...rvations.lasso
They may be able to help you out.

Our favorite weekend escape is in Gualala:

Right on the beach-it's not a "motel", for sure ! go for an upstairs unit and be sure to have lunch or dinner at Pangea.
