North of San Francisco

Need a suggestion for a one night stay on our way to NAPA in Dec. after we land at Oakland Airport. We will skip San Fran. since we were just there. Any nice areas along the ocean on the way to NAPA? Bed and breakfast or small quaint hotel prefered.

Are you planning to visit Sonoma or Napa wineries? Sonoma would be closer to the coast, whereas if you wanted to head directly to Napa, you would be heading INLAND, no coast there!

It's not that long a drive from Oakland to Napa, so I'm not sure what you had in mind. You could spend the evening at the Claremont Spa in Berkeley, have a spa treatment on the evening you arrive and then be off to Napa the next day. When you say Napa, do you mean Napa Valley or the city of Napa. There is a big difference. Maybe a night in Sausalito at the Alta Mira.

In almost the same amount of time that it would take you to drive from Oakland Airport to the coast you, could be in Napa.

I agree that there is no reason to stop on your way to the wine country unless you are arriving very late or are trying to visit the coast as well as the wine country. However, the coast is not always so welcoming in December.

The North Coast has a lot of pleasant locales: Point Reyes, Stinson Beach, Bodega Bay etc... if you should choose to still go out to the coast (not recommended if late arriving flight is the issue). I know their are several B&B's in the Pt. Reyes area, but don't have any specifics. I'm sure web search could help.

If you need to stay closer to Oakland the Claremont is not a bad suggestion. Berkeley also has the French Hotel which is small in a lively community, but may not be that quiet.

You really need to look at a map. There is no ocean on the way from Oakland to Napa. Point Reyes is a wonderful place and worth a visit, but it has nothing to do with being on the way to Napa.
