Northern CA/Rt.299 or 36/ better road?

I am planning a loop trip in Northern CA.
Which is the better road 299 or 36/driving East from I-5 near Redding to West/ Eureka.
What kind of roads are the routes? It does look twisty which would take time...that is OK.
I do HATE drop offs without guard rails!

You want to take 299. Weaverville's cool, as is the Glass Bridge in Redding.

Hi Cedar

I have driven both, both ways. 299 is far and away is the better road.

Have Fun
