NORTH OR SOUTH LAKE TAHOE?

Silver Legacy and all the other big Reno hotel casinos are way nicer than Cal-Neva. Reno also has a fair number of dumpy casinos, but the big hotels don't fall in that category (good - John Ascuaga's Nugget, Harrah's, what used to be Bally, Silver Legacy -- they're all nice, if not as glitzy as their Las Vegas counterparts).

Cal Neva ain't so bad - what w/ the Sinatra/Monroe/Sammy/JFK connections. There is a funky tour you can take in the subterranean tunnel Sinatra had built so his Hollywood/DC friends could come and go w/o being seen.
Plus it's the only casino where one can gamble and see the Lake at the same time. The cottage rooms down the hill from the swimming pool are great.

I had friends who stayed at that vrbo listing (above post) and it was a total dump. Rat infested with overflowing toilets the entire stay. The owners did nothing to help. Some of the windows did not close and the heater only worked 40% of the time.
