North Ends Best Italian Food

OK. i know I know while in Boston you must grab a great itakian meal in the North End. Both Bostonians, guidebooks and tourists agree on that. But what North End italian restaurant actually serves up the best italian grub ?

There are so many its impossible to say which is best. They all have something to offer. Personally I'm not a "red sauce" Italian fan (my mother in law was the best cook and no restaurant could ever compare) but for other types of Italian I like Terramia on Salem. I've had delicious meals at Massamino's but also a pretty mediocre one.

I can't help with the "best", but even though I live here, I still like to wander streets of North End and look at menus posted in windows to see what I am in the mood for.

I'll go out on a limb with my favorites:

Casual/Family: Pagliuca's or Atico Forno

Upscale/Trendy: Prego, Sage, or the unique Trattoria Scallintella

Traditional Italian American: ARTU

Bakery: Maria's Pastries

Have fun!

Thanks guys. Ate at a great Italian place called Le Osteria which had the most incredible pasta ever. Also it was affordable which was great. Also btried both Mikes and Modern pastries but liked Mikes better.
