Hotel in East Rutherford or Financial District?

I will soon be visiting NYC for the first time and will be staying at either the Fairfield Meadowlands in East Rutherford NJ (which is on the bus route into Manhattan) or at the Marriott Financial Center on West St near the NYSE. Neither is my choice location but I am limited due to availability of employee associate rate. Which would you recommend? The Marriott Financial Center would cost $200 more for a 4-night stay. Thanks for your help.

Don't know the Marriott Financial Center but I do know the Fairfield Inn. If you're visiting NYC stay at the Financial Center. You'll already be in Manhattan and won't have to monkey around with the 163/164 bus, which can be a royal pain.

Definitely I recommend the Manhattan option if you want to have any time to discover New York. Realistically the commute will add more than an hour of travel time to your day plus the extreme nuisance factor.

You certainly don't want to spend your NYC trip in a New Jersey swamp surrounded by an ugly stadium, an arena and a cheesy strip mall. Manhattan at all costs!

Although i don't agree with the description of East Rutherford, NJ as a "New Jersey swamp surrounded by an ugly stadium, an arena and a cheesy strip mall" i would agree that you should stay in Manhattan.

The Fairfield in East Rutheford is a very nice property, but if you want to be in/visit Manhattan, stay in Manhattan.

The Marriott FC is a good property, and the location is worth the extra bucks.

Did you include the cost of travel into your estimate? Round trip bus fare to NYC from East Rutherford will cost something like $10-$25 per day per person.

Stay in downtown NYC! The area behind the Financial Center is beautiful. If you like jogging, bike riding, kayaking, trapezing, mini-golf and batting cages, Hudson River Park is just a short walk from your hotel.
