NOLA Update
I've collecting info on New Orleans restaurants off the boards and wanted to pass along an update.
I called the Hyatt Hotel today, The Dome Top restaurant no longer does the chocolate dessert buffet.
I made reservations at The Commander's Palace for the jazz brunch; they said no shorts, t-shirts or jeans. Outdoor seating is available, which we requested, but if the weather is too hot, they will just move you inside.
We are going in August for an extended weekend. Any other tips on restaurants would be welcome.
Thanks.

I'm not sure which board you've been checking, but I wouldn't ever advise anyone to eat at the Hyatt...it's not a very good hotel and I don't remember that their food was good either. As for Commander's Palace, it's a New Orleans institution, and most folks dress up a little for it. Though coats aren't necessary for men at brunch or lunch, many wear them anyway. They're required at dinner.
I can't imagine your wanting to sit outside in August, which is the most miserable month of the year in NO. Request a table in the patio room, which has a nice view but with air conditioning. For tons of info on NO restaurants, do a search of this board.

Susan's on the money. I wouldn't request outdoor seating as the weather will make it less than pleasant.
The Top of the Dome is okay hotel food. There are better places! I actually have a gift certificate from a charity auction and can't find anyone who wants to eat there.
As for Commander's, I think you'll like it. Even thought a jacket isn't required at brunch, I always wear one.

Thanks for the tip on the patio room. The chocolate dessert buffet was recommened, sounded good, (how could it not?) but since they are no longer offering it we will stay clear of the Hyatt, to many other good choices. Thanks for the input.
