NOLA Accommodations-Soniat House vs. Fairmont Hotel

We will be in New Orleans for 5 nights, early May (business and leisure). My husband and I have secured reservations at Soniat House and Fairmont Hotel (Windsor Court is booked). Would appreciate feedback (pro or con) from Fodorites who have stayed at either property.
Thanks to all who reply.

I'd choose the Soniat House. It's small, elegant and well-located in the lower French Quarter. The Fairmont is a nice, grand old hotel but doesn't really provide the level of service you will get at the Soniat House.

John,

I appreciate your speedy reply. Have you stayed at Soniat House? The only room available is on the 3rd floor (a queen bed room) or a suite which is not cost effective. After speaking with their concierge today, I am hopeful our stay there will be memorable. She did mention there is a trolley close by that my husband could take to the convention center. This is our first visit to New Orleans.

I stayed at Soniat House many years ago, prior to moving to New Orleans. I wouldn't worry...a "regular" room there is quite nice! And you are indeed close to the riverfront streetcar line, which will whisk you to the Riverwalk/Casino/Conv Ctr area.
