Nogales Mexico tour from Phoenix
We're visiting Phoenix in July and trying to sort out tours and attractions we want to see. One tour we're considering is the Nogales Mexico shopping and San Xavier Mission Tour. Has anyone done this? or have comments or advice?
Thanks.
Thanks.

We went to San Xavier when staying in Tucson and I do recommend visiting there, it is just lovely!
But I found Nogales to be quite sad, any Mexican border town is depressing to me and I doubt the shopping is worth the trip from Phoenix!

Have just returned from Arizona and San Xavier was half cloaked in scaffolding on the outside but I have no idea how long it will be like that.
We found Nogales to be quite intimidating - I'm afraid I get put off by pushy "come inside ladies please" tactics and end up not even stopping to browse so they lose any chance they had of me buying anything. We're wimps really!
However if you do go make sure you visit Tubac on the way - absolutely charming place "where history meets art" as one of their signs says. A total contrast to Mexico but with many of the same beautiful pieces of pottery and tin pieces to be found.

tucson and the desert museum is a great place, but will be hot. Nogales is as other posters said, sad but there is no denying silver and some pottery bargains.
it is a long drive for the day from phoenix. instead i would head north, COOLER.
oak creek canyon, slide rock state park, sunset crater, sedona, the red rocks also a day trip to the grand canyon not out of the question if you would go all the way to nogales
3hours there, and 3 hours back to the canyon from phoenix.
mission was under construction last spring and it looked like there was still a ton of stuff to do....

I have been to Nogales every time I visit Phoenix area and always enjoy it. Yes, it is sad but it is a dose of reality. The bargains are hard to beat. I always take an extra bag to bring back my bargains. The hardest part if trying to decide what to buy and what to leave behind ! Had a great meal at a nce restaurant there but cannot remember the name !! It is on the corner of the main drag... will post if I recall the name.
