NJ/Statue of Liberty advice

Thinking about taking my niece to see the statue of liberty next week. I know this is last minute but would it be possible for me to get tickets in NJ, ride the boat to see Ellis Island and Liberty Island, then ride the boat to Manhattan? Not going to the pedestal or crown of course.
Thanks in advance,
Pam

Yes, you can board the ferry in NJ then return to Manhattan. The key question is how will you get back? If it's the SoL ferry, then you'd need a ticket to board in NY (may be sold out), and also go through security again. Tickets from NJ look available any day, any hour next week. Tickets from NY are available any day next week, but the last available time looks like it is 2pm each day. Not obvious to me if the later ferries are sold out or maybe they are available for walk up/same day purchase.

The route the vessels travel is shown in the map.

Alternate way to get back to NJ. Ferry to Liberty Harbor (Jersey City) then walk, taxi, or uber the 1+ mi back to your car.

You could also take the Path Trains back to Liberty State Park. They run from the World Trade Center and from a few other stops in Manhattan. https://www.panynj.gov/path/

DIRECTIONS TO LIBERTY STATE PARK

"Take the PATH subway to either Pavonia /Newport or Hoboken.
From there, take the Light Rail to Liberty State Park"

Haven't done it so not sure how much walking will be required!

Good suggestion from FD - you can take the PATH to Jersey City.
Here's the map of the light rail from JC Path to Liberty park, then the walk back to your car. (~1mi)
Or take taxi/uber from Path in JC....
So you have several options to get back across the river to NJ...

Thanks for the advice, everyone! That is so helpful.
Just wondering if it costs more to buy tickets at the dock. Never know how long it will take to get there with traffic.
