Nights versus Days

On many posts, I have noticed that the writer will say "we will be there _____ nights, what to see?" Why not how many full days? Or is it they just go out at night? Two nights can equal only one day to see things depending on arrival and departure times.

I am not trying to be picky, but it seems that the poster would like to have several options of places to go and the difference of a day is important.

aileen...Just a guess, but every time I hear on radio/TV a travel ad, it's nearly always, "2 nights, from____ per person" or something similar..So I think it's more or less a so-called mind set.

aileen, when I did marketing for an airline and also when I worked in a travel agency we were told to use the # of nights for a clearer picture of how long the traveller would have at their vacation place.

For example, on the European Board, some will ask for help with their itinerary saying that they will be taking an 12 day trip to Italy for example.

Does that mean that they will have 12 days in Italy or does that mean that they have a total of 12 days for the entire trip including the flying to Europe and flying home from Europe.

Usually it turns out the traveller means they have a total of 12 days including their travel days. If it is expressed in the # of nights one has for the trip it is clearer and helps others answer their questions without having to go through the step of asking if the # of days include the travel time.

Not as important for travel within the mainland of the US but in that flying to Europe takes several hours more it does make a difference.

And you are correct of course with your comment about two nights can equal only one day depending on arrival and departure times. Also depends on how far the person has to travel to to get to their defination.

If I go for one night to SF I really have almost two complete days as I live close to SF. If someone if flying from NY to SF for one night they of course have much less time to enjoy SF.

Since I have only had one cup of coffee (need 2 cups before I am complete awake, LOL) I hope I have answered your question. Best regards.

thanks, I was just curious. I guess it is sort of a mind set thing.

I'm not one that would enjoy a full schedule of two days of things stuffed into one day. I would rather savor a few things well and hope to return some other day.
