Nightime Volcano - from Kona
We are heading Kauai/BI Sept 15-29 - 1 wk K - 1 @ BI (Kona) about our 5th trip - so we are kewl with Kauai and all to do, but I have always wanted to do a "flow" at night from a chopper.
Any suggestions ?

I cannot recall anyone doing nightflights now, but I did talk to a fellow guest at a resort who had done a nightflight over the flow and absolutely loved it. Hopefully some is still doing them.
Hopefully, someone out there will have up-to-date info.

I found out that there are NO nightime gigs (maybe by chartered - too much $$) and only fixed wing from Kona.
They do leave Hilo - ok - will make a day - one is Safari - have taken Safaria on Kauai - the other is (I believe Rainbow).
Reviews on safari seem all good.
(Just for anyone thinking the same thing)

FYI. We were just in Volcano last week and the flow had changed so much in 2 weeks that it wasn't going into the ocean at all when we visited. In fact, the only way we could "see" lava was it's nightglow from the National Park Museum. As we were told by the park staff, this is just the chance you take when dealing with the volcano and it's quirks. Of course, after 5 visits you probably know this but others might not be as informed....
