I never understood "Oz" for Australia when the real wonders are in New Zealand.

Philly for Philadelphia has always been close to me heart!

Kansas City is NOT cowtown..Ft. Worth is. KC is the red headed step child of St. Louis.

Can't believe no one posted this:

Chi-town for Chicago.
Chicagoland for the whole metropolitan area.

Dallas- metroplex.

Calli,

Dallas is not the Metroplex. Dallas AND Fort Worth together make up the Metroplex.

Calli: Kansas City calls itself Cowtown (despite the derogatory intent). It's all over from a local T-shirt store named "Cowtown T's", to websites, to columns in the newspaper about "Cowtown Information", etc.

"Something": the name "Oz" for Australia has nothing to do with the Wizard of Oz. It's a phonetic nickname. Australia is abbreviated AUS, and with an accent it sounds like "Ozz". Australians are called Aussies, which to the ears of Americans sounds like "Ozzies".
