Going to Cleveland for a wedding in September, and I'm looking for a nice hotel in a good, central location. Ideally, I'd like something less expensive than the Ritz, but still upscale - maybe in the $150-200 range. Saw good rates at the Renaissance and Wyndham - anyone know about these?

Try the Hyatt at the Arcade. Central location, only one year old and located in one of the coolest buildings in town.

If you are willing to pay up to $200 you should stay at the Ritz-Carlton. It is without a doubt the best property in the city and they have very reasonable rates. For example, there is a bed and breakfast package which offers a deluxe room (400 square feet) plus full breakfast for two each morning for only $229. If you factor in the cost of the breakfast you are easily within your $150 to $200 price range. Treat yourself, splure, you'll enjoy it more than in Renaissance or Whyndam beause of the wonderful service the gracious staff provides. Enjoy the wedding.

We are hosting a rather large meeting next year in Cleveland and after much research have picked the Renaissance in downtown Cleveland. It is a renovated downtown hotel but really very nice. It is attached to Tower City, an urban mall with several rather nice shops. The hotel restaurant is very nice but just two blocks away is the Warehouse district which is where most of the decent eateries, bars, and clubs are located. The Rock n Roll HOF is just a short cab ride or rapid (rail) ride away. Depending if you are interested or not Jacobs Field is a short walk away as well, as is Gund Arena if a concert is in town. The Windham is pretty nice as well and is only about 10-12 blocks away. If you are interested in theatre the Playhouse Square area is adjacent to the Windham an the theatres there are really nice. The property is much newer than the Renaissance but in my opinion not quite as nice or centrally located as the Renaissance. The Hyatt spoken of earlier is also very nice but the historic arcade that it is located in has yet to have much its shops open...so right now it is really pretty much unoccupied although the hotel seems nice. The arcade itself is a beautifully restored historic landmark, just pretty quiet right now.

Thanks to you all for your replies. Unfortunately, we have been roped in to staying at the suburban Hilton where everyone else is staying, so we won't be able to check out any of your suggestions. Maybe next time!

Paul; We were just at the Renaissance for a meeting in mid-May. The promised renovation hasn't even begun and the place is a REAL DUMP now. The windows in our room wouldn't even close. I thought the staff was quite inept and the attitudes could have used improvement. The concierge level was never staffed. I wouldn't risk a meeting there until I'd seen the whole renovation finished and under new management.
