Nice Beach near Mystic, CT

Hello,

Can someone recommend a nice beach in Connecticut or Rhode Island, within half an hour or so drive from Mystic? The ocean water is now probably too cold to swim in....just looking for a clean place with nice sand. Thanks!

Hammonasset Beach State Park is excellent.

Thanks, Deb. I am, however, looking for something a bit closer to Mystic.

I thought it would be within 30 minutes, sorry - it has been a while since I was there.

Misquamicutt, RI. (Check the spelling). This is your best bet but even then its probably more than a half hour.

It is 38 miles, about 45 minutes per mapquest, about what I thought.

There is a very nice beach at Watch Hill, you will have to pay to park and hike onto the beach, one side is on the bay/river no waves) and the other side is ocean nice gentle waves. A little closer than Misquamicutt and not as built up.

Watch Hill is a good choice, although parking can be expensive -- I saw a parking lot charging $20 last week, and there is an additional fee to get on the beach of $6 per adult. I don't remember what they charge children.

You might also consider Blue Shutters beach in Charlestown, RI.
