It's about 80 miles to Toronto. So figure about 1 1/2 hours driving time.
I suggest that you stay on the Canadian side of the falls as it is much nicer. I've stayed at the Radisson Fallsview a couple of times and enjoyed it very much. They have a web site that you might want to check out.
Also just allow me to make a correction on the spelling of Niagara. You made a very common spelling error on the name. Not trying to pick on you, just want to make sure that everyone knows that it's Niagara not Niagra.
Have a great trip and while you are in the area, stop by Niagara on the Lake. It is a cute little town just up the river.

Toronto should take you no more than 90 minutes from Niagara Falls. Buffalo is 1/2 hour away and worth a day. Can't help you with hotel suggestions but as much as I'd like to help the economy on the U.S. side in all honesty the Canadian side is the place to stay. Agree with previous poster that Niagara on the Lake is worth a visit.

just got back from an overnight on Monday. Stayed at the Sheraton on the Falls which is located right next to the Casino. The room was quite nice and it was only $65 including taxes. It is located near all the major attractions and the bridge to the USA is close by so a walk to Goat Island on the American side is possible. Highly recommend the Maid of the Mist as it is an experience to remember. If your coming down later in the day I might suggest Marie's in St. Catherines if you like Lobster. They serve it up to five pounds. They have a website for further information. Niagara on the Lake is worth some time as well.

I agree that you should stay on the Canadian side. I have stayed at the Marriott, with a room overlooking the falls, and had a beautiful view. I do feel that the falls are worth exploring from the American side as well, and I'd recommend parking in the lot and taking the tram around for a tour pointing out the hightlights, which allows you to get on and off as desired.
The trip to Toronto is about an hour and a half. Toronto is a great city. When we stayed there we stayed in the business/shopping district. It had a lot to offer, but next time, I'm definitely staying by the lake. I'd recommend the Renaissance. It's right next to the Skylon tower [I believe that's the name] and has some rooms overlooking the baseball stadium, in case that is of interest to you. It is across the street from the lake and the theatre dist. is close by.

Why must a discussion about Niagra Falls change to a forum about intimate relations? When my husband gets romantic he is a true handyman. We dream of Niagra Falls and he plans the whole trip. Its so romantic. We never leave the house until he locks himself in the bathroom to focus on the vacation.

Just came back from Niagara last night. We stayed at the Mariott Fallsview and loved it. Ask for a room that overlooks the falls---most of theirs do... you see both the canadian and american. They offer a few 2 bedroom suites that is really like adjoining hotel rooms... one room with a king views the river, the other with 2 queens view both falls... 2 baths... 2 tvs... we paid $130 US.
Our favorite activity was the Cave of the Winds tour on Goat Island (US side). Also enjoyed Maid of the Mist, Skylon tower, Niagara on the Lake. Must eat at Casa d'oro (sp?)... best Italian I've ever eaten.
A great vacation!
