Hotel near IAD (Dulles) with shuttle and/or car rental availabilty
Yikes! I had a carefully crafted message ready to send, previewed, stopped to edit a minor error, and the whole message disappeared. Someday I'll learn to copy content as I go along. Sigh.
I usually have done some research before appealing to Fodorites for input, but this time I'm starting here in the hope that someone will respond with, "Oh yeah, I know how to do that." So here goes:
We're landing at Dulles about 11:00 pm after a flight from SFO. We'll be renting a car and driving the next day out to visit friends near Warrenton. We would like to stay overnight at a hotel near Dulles that has 1) a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and 2) rental car availability in the hotel. I know there are a zillion hotels around the airport, but I'm not sure how to filter results for 1) and 2) above.
Many thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge or experience.

There aren't many hotels near Dulles with rental cars on site but if you stay in Sterling, VA at a hotel with a shuttle, it's just a 10 minute ride and you could go back to the airport to pick up a car. I recommend the Doubletree on Atlantic Blvd. Just avoid cheap, extended stay hotels. They tend to attract unsavory people.

Thanks, Hobbert. We prefer to avoid unsavory people, but after a flight from SFO we may be a bit unsavory ourselves. We may have to resort to heading back to the airport to pick up the car but am hoping for the best possible option of shuttle plus rental car availability at the hotel.
