New York Yankees Info

We are going to be in NYC in August while the Yankees are playing Texas or Seattle. Should we need to get tickets ahead of time for a Saturday afternoon game or for any of the games during the week? Not really concerned about what kind of seating.

Also, is the subway our best bet for getting there and returning from Rockefeller Center area where we are staying? Never been to NYC so just curious about subway time needed and how much time do we need at the stadium to see everything that may be of interest?

thanks!

You should get tickets ahead for the Saturday game. It may sell out. Weekday games will not likely sell out but we showed up for a Wednesday night game against the Tigers last year and it WAS sold out...go figure.

If you want to see Monument Park, get there at least an hour before the game. I think they close it 1/2 hour before.

Subway wouold be best. I usually take the 4 up Lexington, it stops right at the stadium. Should take about 15 minutes from midtown.

Definitely take the subway. It's very easy. From the Rock. Ctr. area, walk to Lexington av & 51st st (or 59th st) and take the #4 to 161st St. 1 hour should be more than enough time, it could be as quick as 1/2 hr.

You can buy tickets at one of the Yankees clubhouse stores in Manhattan when you arrive. You're not going to get good seats, but then again, you probably couldn't get good seats now. I don't think those games would sell out in advance. You can check the Yankees website for store locations or advance ticket sales.

Many of the weekend games in August sold out last year, completely. The Seattle game is already sold through the mains and loge. I think it's foolish to wait until you get here, especially if Seattle is a contender. They usually sell well in NYC because of Ichiro and Kaz.

The #4 train on Lexington Avenue is the train that stops at Yankee Stadium. However. it doesn't stop at 51st St. You can take the #6 from Lexington and 51st and then transfer to the #4 at 59th St, or just walk to 59th and Lexington. OR, if your "Rockefeller Center" location is closer to 7th Avenue, you might catch the R train at 49th St. and 7th Ave and then change to the #4 at 59th. Whatever the route, the subway is fastest, easy, and safe. Trains after the game will be lively with other Yankee fans.

If you have specific games you want to see, I would go to the Yankees website and order tickets now for those games.
August games can be sold out, especially if the Yankees are doing well.

Also the D train which is much closer to you goes right to Yakees Statium. Take the D train at 5th and 51st. At 59th St it becomes an express train and will stop at 125th St, 145th St and Yankee Stadium. We live close enough to the stadium to see it from the corner of our street and that's the train we use to go downtown and actually we can walk to the stadium from here.

After the game take the D train back downtown to your hotel.

Have a great time and enjoy your stay in NYC.

All the best seats are likely to be gone already, believe it or not. My advice: either buy tix from the Yankees website (you can see what the best seats left are for what price) or buy some from scalpers outside the stadium on game day. The best thing about Yankee Stadium is that it's well-designed...there are no "bad" seats. Even on the upper deck you don't feel too far away.

Take the subway...it's really the only option. You'll be traveling with lots of fans.

DO take the train but FORGET the 4 train (and if you do take the lex line, don't make the newbie mistake of getting on a 5 which DOES NOT go to Yankee Stadium but instead goes to the HINTERLANDS OF THE BRONX). Take the B or the D train which goes right to the stadium from Rockefeller Center.

If it is a NICE SUNNY day, 1 hour before the game will get you about NOTHING in Monument Park. Go at least 90 minutes before the game, if not 2 hours. What you can do, and is still a treat for the kids, is go 2 hours, take an hour for Monument park, then get as close to the Yankees dugout as you can for BATTING PRACTICE. Go WITH A PROGRAM BALL HAT ETC AND A SHARPIE and the kids can scream and yell for a player to "sign" which they'll do. Now that's a treat. Anywhere you can get the SAUSAGES AND PEPPERS, do so. AVOID nacho's and cheese, NYERS don't do nachos and cheese very well.

I'm going to a Yankee game in July. Is it better to go at night during the week , during the day or does it matter? I would prefer night but, just because I want to do the Bronx zoo during the day. Can you go to the Monument Park if you are going to the night game as well? I would also like to see them during batting practice. Is the subway the way to get back to midtown at night? Thanks

midweek night games are the way to go, not nearly as crowded as weekend day games. check the schedule some wednesdays are senior citizen day games.monument park is open before all games. but as a previous poster said get there 2 hours early. D train is the way to go. plenty of fans on subway atnight to get to midtown with. Matsui hit a grand slam today, his first homer at yankee stadium!

The subway is the only reasonable way to get to the game from Midtown, day AND night. The subways are PACKED with fans...lots of families...very safe.

I'd do a night game if I were you...during the day (esp. in July) you FRY in the hot sun.
