I thought FAO Schwatrz closed down. They've reopened now? Same location?

A British child named James came to New York from England, riding on a giant peach that arrived at the Empire State Building. Perhaps your daughter has read the book and should see the building.

And ride the Staten Island Ferry.

She might want to look for art when she is out on the stteets. Look for sculptures and statues and paintings on the sides of buildings and in windows.

And she might want to look for parts of new York that remind her of home, and parts that are very, very different.

The taxis, for instance, are different, but the subway is sort of the same.

Cars are on the different side of the road. Whcih city has more motorcycles?

Which city has bookstores that are more interesting to children?

Thanks for so many replies!!

Daughter loves 'Home Alone' movies, and has read 'James and the Giant Peach', BAK, Roald Dahl being her favourite author. (Nothing to do with the fact that he was born in our home town of Cardiff!)

Mclaurie - if your brain was working hard, so will mine checking out all those great ideas.

slw - thanks for the link. I now somewhat understand now what 'The Gates' will be!

Not having much luck with B&Beast discounted tickets. If nothing turns up before we leave, where is the 'Half price ticket booth' (?) for that/next day's tickets? Don't want to spend loads of time in a line, however. Any ideas?

Got to go, thanks again, everyone!

On playbill.com there is a discount code for Beauty and the Beast that's good through Feb 17, but I think it may not work for 2/12-13. The code is PlayJ and it's for:

Orchestra/ front mezzanine tickets are JUST $55* (reg $100) for Tuesdays @ 7pm, Wednesdays @ 2pm, Thursdays @ 7pm and Sundays @ 6:30 pm

Orch/front mezzanine tickets are JUST $70* (reg. $100) for Fridays @ 8pm, Saturdays @ 2 & 8pm and Sundays @ 1pm

There are also 2 other discount codes on this page

http://www.broadwaybox.com/shows/Bea...ast_2.asp?s=22

Check to see if there are also blackouts on those for your dates.

There are 2 half price tickets booths, one in Times Square and one across from the South Street Seaport. The one downtown across from the Seaport is much less crowded (and not so easy to find) and has the advantage of selling matinee tickets the day before the show. You do need cash at the booths vs a credit card on line.

tdf.org is the website that gives detailed info about location and hours for the booths and will also show what shows have been available recently.
