New York Transportation Question

Thank you all for your assistance with all the transportation questions I have had regarding NYC. It is through you all I braved the Subway for the first time last summer.

I am traveling to NYC on Oct 7 with my eleven year old. We are very excited.

As I shared before I am going to see my elderly Aunt on Thursday morning. She is on Staten Island.

As Ellen suggested the Thursday morning and that makes the most sense.

I am staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in Time Square and will take the subway to get the ferry to Staten Island.

We were told to then take the train to Pleasant Point?

My questsion is:

Is the train right outside the ferry? That is the way my Aunt made it sound? Any insight is appreciated - as I have shared I am a bit of a nervous traveler.

Thanks as always,
Dawn

Yes, the Staten Island Ferry is right by the Staten Island Railway station - the station stop's name is St. George.

here's a link to the map at the MTA site:
http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/simap.htm

The Pleasant Point stop is alllll the way down at the other end of Staten Island.

You might also put in your starting and ending points on hopstop.com to see how long the train will take. Be sure to pull down Staten Island on the menu where it says "borough"

thank you mp! That is what I was looking for. So walking to the train station is easy from the ferry?

I haven't done it in years, but I seem to remember it's right there.

Thank you Ellen.

How long would one give to get from Time Square Hilton Garden Inn to the Ferry and then the Ferry to Pleasant Point and vic versa? We have show tickets for that evening.

You wrote Pleasant Plains--did you mean Pleasant Point?

At the link to the Staten island Railroad posted earlier, you can see complete schedules that show the train with connecting ferries.

For example, heading to Staten Island in the morning,
ferry
dep Manhattan/Whitehall 8:00am
arr Staten Island/St George 8:25am
connects to SIRR
dep St George 8:31am
arr Pleasant Plains 9:06am

coming back
SIRR
dep Pleasant Plains 5:01pm
arr St George 5:36pm
connects to ferry
dep St George 5:45pm
arr Whitehall 6:10pm

I would allow at least 45 minutes to take the subway between your hotel and the ferry. It might be quicker, but I would allow more time rather than less, since you've never done this before.
