Please do not go to this parade! Boycott it. They perpetually deny the Irish Gay and Lesbian Organization the right to march. They claim St. Patrick's Day is a spiritual holiday, but A)spirituality and homosexuality are not mutually exclusive and B)since when does getting completely shitfaced and acting obnoxious as most of the guys at the parade do constitute spritual behavior?

Politics aside, this is the most boring parade in NY. A bunch of drunk rowdy teenagers and even drunker police officers in uniform. A disgrace.

Since you are Irish and from UK, you'll probably enjoy the experience. But be aware that the police might arrest you if you're caught drinking on the street. After many complaints, the police have been cracking down on "outdoor" drinking in the past few years.
(PS to Edie: What do you mean the parade is more than a year away? It's next March!)
