New York for 1 Day

Hi,

We are staying in the Berkshires June 26 - July 3 and plan to take the train to Grand Central and explore NYC for the day. What should we see?

Since we know nothing about you and the others in your group--not your ages, your interests, nor anything else--it would be a bit difficult (and presumptuous) for anyone to offer any meaningful advice.
Further, a little research on your part before asking the question wouldn't hurt either.

I would say that w/one day in NYC, esp. if it is the first time you will be there, you can close your eyes and roll the dice on where to go and you'd be fine, as long as you know your interests and focus on those and don't plan too much, and realize your one day limit and when yo uhave to be back at Grand Central. You'll see one or two or maybe a few things depending on what you choose to focus on. BUt don't try to get around all over and exhaust yourselves, bad idea for one day.

You may have to rethink your plans. I don't know that there is any train service from anywhere in the Berkshires to NYC. Two bus lines service the Berkshires - Bonanza and Peter Pan. The bus trip is going to take at least three hours and possibly longer. I don't know that service is that frequent. At any rate you probably won't have that much time in MYC.

I would walk up to Times Square, across to Rockefeller Plaza, and up Fifth Avenue to Central Park. Walking uptown through the park I would stop at 70th Street for the Frick Museum (which is housed in a mansion) and then on to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. And/or I would take a subway to lower Manhattan and walk uptown via Wall Street, Chinatown, Little Italy, and Greenwich Village. Wear comfortable shoes. Don't worry about where to eat. There is food everywhere.

I'm not sure exactly where you would be getting the train - but there seem to be only a couple per day and it looks like it takes 3/4 hours each way. So you would be spending 6 to 8 hours on the train to spend a few hours in the city.

I'm not sure this would make sense - but in any case you need to tell us more about yourselves before we could make any sort of reco on what's best to see/do.
