New York Courtyard Midtown East

Does anyone have any information on this hotel? Is it in a good location for a tourist visiting New York?

Midtown in general is a great place from which to base a NYC visit. Everything is a quick walk, cab ride or subway ride away from where the Courtyard is (3rd Ave, lower 50s-- 51st St, isn't it?). I've never been, but my mom stayed there when my sis was at Memorial Sloane-Kettering, and said it was quite good. A colleague in NYC from the UK also said she liked it. You're also a bit north of the madness of Times Square, so it's just a teeny bit quieter.

If the above address is correct, make sure you visit Essa-Bagel (51st St and Third Ave) for breakfast... great, affordable, and you'll end up there more than once!

I live right around the corner from this hotel. It's an excellent location for a tourist. The E,V, and 6 trains are right next door and you can get anywhere in the city using one of them (you may need to transfer but I take the E to the B and make it to the Upper West Side in 15-20 mins, for an example). There are some good restaurants in teh area but you'll want to travel to different areas of the city for more funky, hip places. It's a very central location.

I think it's actually at 3rd and 52nd, so Essa-Bagel's only one block south. I second the recommendation. Yum!!

And, while you are at it, don't forget Serendipity 3 for super desserts, on 60th (I think) between 2nd and 3rd. You can walk back to the hotel after you gorge yourself on chocolate concoctions. I highly recommend their hot fudge sundae! YUM.

I stayed there for 4 nights earlier this month and was very pleased, epecially since I got it for $75 per night on Priceline! (Midtown East, 2.5 *)

Clean, quiet, good-sized room, recently remodeled in appealing colors ( neutrals and green, no ugly art), plenty of storage space, mirrors, amenities like fluffy towels, hair dryer and ironing board, etc. Nice big desk with modem and every possible necessary cable (internet access $9.95 for noon-to-noon, pretty standard in my experience).

Literally across the street from an AuBon Pain and next door to a 2-story 24-hour Duane Reed (snacks, drugs, bandaids).

As mentioned above, very handy location for both bus and subway. Across the street from the same subway line as Penn Station, very handy for us Amtrak fans.

Ooops, forgot to mention one more crucial factor: Staff were capable, pleasant and available!
