New York City Restaurants - Near Marriott Marquis on Broadway

We are leaving for New York City this week and wanted to know if anyone had some good ideas for restaurants near the area we are staying. Any ideas? Price not a concern. Thanks.

Do you know about menupages.com? The hotel is in the west 40's. Some ideas--John's Pizzeria on west 44th st. is one of the "famous" pizza places in a converted church. Saju Bistro down the street at the Mela hotel has good value pre theater dinner. 46th st. between 8th & 9th ave. is known as "restaurant row". Some of the places there are tourist traps (Broadway Joe's is the worst) but there are some good places like Joe Allen's for basic American comfort food (theater hangout). You will need a reservation there. Orso, Lattanzi, Becco are Italians on the block. Marseille on 9th ave. is good French bistro. Junior's which has a location across from the hotel on 45 st. is known for their cheesecake.

McLaurie, thank you so much. I actually read about John's Pizzeria as I wanted to try some good pizza. Thanks for your ideas. I appreciate you taking the time to write.

There are a ton of restaurants within a short walk - 15 minutes or so. But - it would help to know what type of foods you like and dislike - and what you really mean by price not a concern.

Are you looking for formal restaurants at $300 for dinner for 2? More casuale cafes? Something very trendy?

The choices above are good but there are a hos of other is you give more info.

We've stayed at the Marriott Marquis a couple of times and have gotten some great restaurant recommendations from them.

Our first experience with Joe Allen was several years ago, and at the time it was great. Last time - a few months ago - it was pretty awful. Rushed atmosphere and bad food

I do think, though, that they're really good with recommendations. (They didn't suggest Joe Allen, I just remembered our nice experience earlier)

Byron---

Walk over to 9th Ave. There are a ton of restaurants in the 40's. 5 Napkin Burger is very good, Rachels is nice for brunch and there are many others.

Also, 46th street between 8th and 9th is restaurant row, much variety there as well.

On 42nd street between 9th and 10th is Ollies noodle shop (used to be right scross the street from the Marquis)they have very good Chinese and not too expensive.

Hope you have a good trip...there's going to be a fresh coating of snow (i.e.slush) up here for you.

Thank you everyone. We are back. The weather was bad. We were hit by a big snow storm but we still had a great time.

We tried Spice in the Meat Packing district one night. Then family took us to the Ukrainian Village Restaurant which was good as well. The Mariott Marquis was a great hotel in a great location.

Oh we did try the famous cheesecake at Junior's. Mmmm.

I was there on business and only had one day to see things. With the snow storm, it was tough too. So we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. That was great. Otherwise, the meeting had dinner at the hotel one night. Sorry not too much else to say this time.

Dohlice, the Tim Burton exhibit is at Museum of Modern art (MOMA), not the Met... I am going to see it at MOMa next week and will give a report.

The MOMA Tim Burton exhibit is very interesting. I booked a time online which the website said you had to do, but when I got there a little early, I walked in and no one was checking reservations. The place was jammed and hard to see, because of so many people. On my way out, I asked the guy at the door to the exhibit why they weren't asking for the reserved times, and he told me they never did it for that exhibit. He didn't understand when I said online it said you had to and I had made a reservation for a specific time.

Patrick; I was there promptly @ opening time & stopped short
when I saw the reservation sign. However, I had passes
so they waved us in.
But, you're so right...it was sooo crowded, twas hard to
get up close. Cannot imagine what it would ahve been like later in the day!

Thank you. How embarassing. I had just decided to go and when I read this post I guess I saw what I wanted to see. It's disappointing that they are not keeping the reservation times and, unfortunately, I have to go on the weekend. It still sounds like it's worth it. I'll get there early and hope for a gorgeous day that keeps some people away!

My reservation was for 2:30 on a weekday. It was a cold and nasty day.
