Wall Street Inn is $373.00 for your dates for 2 dbl. beds on oyster.com

Call them directly for a queen bedded room if you're interested.

Amanda -

I don't want to be discourageing but the site you list is NOT luxury hotels - it's simply a listing of a large nubmer of hotels many of which are 3 * - not anywhere near 5*. (Hilton Garden Inn was the hotel feature on the home page - this is defnitely a side of the road modest place - 3* at most - no luxury at all.)

It's really not a good idea to list sites when you don't know what's on them - or what hotels in New York are like.

Unless of course, this was advertising - in which case it's not allowed.

The only thing I'd add is this: Book that hotel soon, even if you decide to bid on Priceline.

Tourism is pretty strong right now in NYC, especially from foreign tourists, and the best and cheapest hotels book up fast. If you're just not sure what you want, book a room that's cheap enough now so long as you can cancel it without a penalty or cost up to a few nights before you arrive. Then look for something better or bid on Priceline.

My recommendation would be to

1)not stay in the financial district because you are far away from everything and less to do
2) dont stay in times square (stay at least 2 blocks away) because the place is an absolute zoo

at this point the hotels are going to be expensive. I would say go to hotelgizmo.com hotels.com or hotwire.com and check the rates and reviews.

And I would add- avoid Financial District if you can. To me, it's not a real NYC experience

Don't knock it til you've tried it folks! The Financial District has quite a bit of local charm including Delmonicos, the Bull, Bowling Green, proximity to downtown including the S.I. Ferry, etc. It's a quick ride on the subway from Bowling Green or Wall St. to midtown or anywhere else you want to be. And...the price is right. We quite like the Financial District and prefer it over the Times Square area. But I'm a fan of the UWS too.

What I would agree with is: Book something now in your budget that's cancellable and keep looking in case you find a better price or a location that better suits you.

I agree with Austin. I've stayed there (at the Hilton Millenium). It's a great location for a business trip (which my ex was on) but less desirable for leisure and weekend trips. You can get great weekend deals on hotels in the area though. I would do it again - at a great rate - during spring and fall, but not summer and winter if I were depending on using the subway. We had a towncar at our disposal - and that was nice. I did have to give the driver directions though (coming in from LGA). This was in the early 90s.

I don't recommend the Hilton Millenium. It's a very impersonal hotel and the atmosphere is decidedly corporate. The Wall St. Inn is a small boutique hotel. Definitely a "New York" experience, setting, and atmosphere. I've just booked our mid September stay, $268.00 a night on Oyster. Hard to beat, I think.

The least efficient way of traveling around the city is a Town Car! The subway is your friend...

"The least efficient way of traveling around the city is a Town Car!"

LOL! That may be the funniest thing I've read on this board.

Yes, the subway is definitely more "efficient". I suppose some would rather travel "efficiently" than via a free Town Car.

Me? I'll take the Town Car any day of the year - ESPECIALLY when I don't have to pay for it

You should take a walk up 5th avenue to Rockefeller Center, St Patrick's Cathedral, and through Central Park. If you're lucky there might be a concert or Shakespeare performance in the park. Check out the windows of Saks Fifth Ave, Tiffany, Bergdorf, Bendel. See the rockettes at Radio City. Go to Greenwich Village, Washington Square Park, the Highline, Empire State Bldg, Museum of Natural History, the Gugenheim, Moma. These are all NYC icons. You can also get same day theatre tickets at half price. There used to be a ticket booth at Times Square. Not sure if it's moved but check it out.
Sept is a beautiful month in NY. Enjoy

starrs: Yep, put me in that group who would rather get from point A to point B in a reasonable amount of time and not sit in traffic for an extra 45 minutes in a comped limo. Of course walking isn't a bad way to go either.

ksera: quikbook has started advertising a bunch of 'secret sale hotels' on their site and the discounts are staggered to take place from mid-August through mid-December. There were rooms available for $179.00 for some September dates.

Highly recommend the Hotel Elysee on 54th between Park and Madison. Great location and great amenities at the hotel. Boutique style- club room which serves snacks, coffee all day and wine at Happy Hour. You will not be disappointed. Rates are quite reasonable for all you get.

Have you ever done the secret sale deal on quickbook? Seems like decent prices for what they say is a 3.5 star hotel for the week I'm looking at. Just thinking about if it's worth saving the extra money on my cancelable hotel

I have done a secret sale hotel on quikbook. We were very pleased with the Wyndham Garden hotel in Chelsea. It is basically a new hotel. I paid $129.00 a night for this secret sale hotel in May. These rooms are not cancellable.

I had help determining which hotel it was and the 'guess' was right. I'd book another secret sale hotel if the price was right. Why not? I enjoy a nice room but we're usually spending the bulk of our time out and about.

I agree that Marriott is a good chain and has a wide range of hotels at many price levels and in good locations all over Manhattan, but at that time of the year Marriotts in Manhattan will be well over $300 and probably closer to $400.

Thank you for the info. I appreciate it. I wonder if you could chime in with opinion~

There is now on travel zoo the hotel mela for 329 for a queen per nite or the Affinia Manhattan New York for 299/nite and the bentleyhotel for 289 (king)

The affinia looks like it is 310 sq feet so I think it's larger than the others buts it in the flatiron district?. However, I'm not totally hung up on size...just looking for the best overall option for a first time visiter. I'm trying to do the comparing of these with the secret sales on quickbook one of which I think is the mansfield for 279

Interested in opinions at least on the above

Have you taken a look at the photos of these hotels on oyster.com? That might help you make a decision. You're finding some good prices with your search!
