New Year's Eve in Las Vegas....
I guess this is just a general topic for anyone who has been to Vegas on New Year's Eve....besides being completely crazy, just give me your general experience.
If you know of any cool shows that are playing during that time, let me know that, too!
Thanks

Way too crowded at New Years. I would not do it again, but if you like craziness it would be right up your alley. They block off the strip before midnight so people can fill the street. Its wall-to-wall people who throw bottles and light fireworks. The cops have cages ready to cage anyone who gets too out of hand.

We went for 2000 and loved it with three children as well. Got all dressed up and went to the Ceasars Magic show and dinner (definitly NOT for kids only) and went directly out on the strip for a great time. Situate yourself in front of the Bellagio where they play Ode to Joy and light up the Neon sign with the change of year. Major problem for us however was getting a cab back to our hotel. Impossible of course. Suggest you stay on strip within walking distance of action. We loved it but we're New Yorkers who go to Times Square.

As a LV local, I think it's ludicrous. The streets are filled with thousands of people who are too young to be drinking. There are no restrooms. The casinos won't let you in without a hotel room key from their hotel. There is no place to sit, eat, or get a drink without climbing over thousands of people. The hotels charge outrageous rates. There are lines for everything. Those driving home to California can expect a 7 hour drive to turn into a 12 hour drive.
Vegas is always a party. Come some other time, when you can eat, gamble, shop, swim, and sightsee, without hundreds of thousands of other people who want to be in front of you.
Unless you just want to be a part of the madness. If you do, you will love it! If you don't, you will never come back.
In case you are wondering, I'm not an old fart...I'm 34. I just can't stand the hassle of New Year's Eve. It's pointless.
