New River Trail in Va.

We won't have bikes but want to hike the 'highlights' of the 57 mile New River Trail in Virgina that runs between Galax & Pulaski. Suggestions/experiences invited & encouraged.

We bike it frequently. I think you and the kids will enjoy it a great deal. Are you camping?
We like to visit Foster Falls, Shot Tower, and Fries along the trail. The bridges and tunnels are great fun.
I can recommend a couple of cabins if you are interested. The food options along the trail are not terrific. There is a cute little wine shop (Purple Feet I think is the name)and a very nice coffee shop with good food. it is on Main St and has a striped awning...one hundred block as I recall but for the life of me the name isn't coming to me. Maybe later....

I will welcome cabin suggestions & if you know the locations of the tunnel(s) that would be excellent. Don't think we're camping this time. Shot Tower was at the top of the list from what I have read.
+ I am certain to stop @ Villa Appalccia for lunch, since I'll be in the neighborhood. Thx !

Sorry, I have been away all day.

The two cabins we have previously rented were
http://www.newrivertrailcabins.com/
and
http://www.chestnutcreekcabins.com/

Both are located directly on the trail. The first is at the Galax trailhead and the second is on Chestnut Creek. A great resource on the park is

the rangers are terrific. I suggest you give them a call and perhaps they can pinpoint the tunnels. I cannot for the life of me find that map.

I hope you have a great time.

There are shops manned by the rangers at several of the spots on the trail and they have maps, photos and books which are excellent.
Have fun.
