Magnolias are indigenous to the entire southeast so if I saw one, I wouldn't think New Orleans.

Are you going to be looking at her tattoo? LOL
As long as it reminds snowrooster of New Orleans it has served it's purpose.

I'd forget the crawfish. If the artist wasn't exceptionally good, in a moment of passion you could be accused of having crabs.

Well, I must be smarter than the average bear right now. There's a video on the msn.com page this morning showing the tattoos a couple who escaped Katrina chose. It's an actual radar image of Katrina as it crosses over NO.

I didn't watch the video - just read the blurb. It was to the right of the article about a Dublin shed selling for 260K!

In the eye of a hurricane, a crawfish wearing a mask and beads while one claw is holding a trumpet and the other claw is holding a beignet which has a fleur d lis imprinted on the top surface.

GT - I feel the same way about the magnolia - I would have to explain to anyone I showed it to that it was representative of New Orleans to me.

So I'm thinking that if I can't find something that really strikes me, I could just get a little heart when I am in New Orleans next year. That way there will always be one tiny part of me that is truly "from New Orleans."

Isn't New Orleans referred to as the "Crescent City"? How about a crescent moon? I remember reading something about families in New Orleans have crescent moons as part of their family coat of arms...

What about the word Desire? as in streetcar? or a magnolia with the letters NOLA entwined..

Lovely idea, in Portland, one feels odd with No tattoo.

Who remembers the old joke about the guy with a tattoo which the nurse thought was a tribute to his wife, "Wendy". Found out it was "Welcome to New Orleans, Have a Nice Day".

Maxwell,

You are indeed a Smart man.

We differ in that I'm much more afraid of the image of Old Lady Snowrooster's thigh than I am of Mr. Simmons.

In any case I'm sure that grand old town will persevere.

Love,
