New Orleans Tattoo?
As you may know from my many previous posts, I lived in New Orleans during childhood and visit as often as I can. It is a city that holds a special place in my heart like no other. I don't have any tattoos and feel I'm somewhat too mature to get one at the age of 33 (though I actually hate anyone saying anyone is too old for anything). However I've always thought that if I did get one I'd like it to be something that represented New Orleans - a symbolic way to always keep the city with me. It would have to small and easily hidden (low hip, middle of lower back, upper buttock :-) ). Any ideas? I've had a couple but nothing that made think YES, THAT'S IT!
I don't know if I'll ever have the guts to do it, but it's crossed my mind enough times that I thought y'all might have fun helping me out with ideas!! |
And I thought this was from buncharbum when I read the subject line....
|
I think a crawfish tattooed on your inner thigh would be very symbolic. Or how about a beignet between your breasts?
Just a couple of suggestions. ((a)) ((b)) |
Crawfish is actually an interesting idea. I have fond memories of my parents bringing home crawfish wrapped in newspaper that they'd pour out in a heap on our kitchen table. My lips would burn for hours after eating them!
|
How about a mardi gras mask? You could intertwine beads and a saxaphone.
|
PS. I think the tattoo is an outstanding idea! Props to you snowrooster!
|
Although you would know that the crustacean tattooed on your (insert body part here) is a crawfish, a lot of people that would see it (assuming it is on a visible body part) would think it a lobster and ask you if you were from Maine.....
Another suggestion would be a Paddlewheel Riverboat, but I like GoTravel's Mardi Gras mask idea the most. |
A fleur di lis
|
It wouldn't be visible except maybe in a bathing suit. We have paddleboats on the Ohio River so unless it actually said "Natchez" on it wouldn't seem like a NO thing to me. I like the Mardi Gras mask too, but so many people only associate NO w/Mardi Gras and to me it is so much more. I've thought about a simple outline of the state of Louisiana with a little tiny heart over where New Orleans is located.
|
I can't do a fleur di lis as after years of living in Cincinnati, the BENGALS are my team and that is the Saints symbol (they are still my #2 team)!
BTW, if you are planning on going to the Super Bowl this year, plan to see orange & black celebrating at the end!! Go Bengals - Who Dey!! Sorry, it's been a long time coming. |
If we could have a peek at the potential locations for this tat it would help with the design effort.

...and I thought this thread was about one of those marching band extravaganzas!
|
If you go with the Mardi Gras beads, you might want to have the tattoo put closer to the area you're suppose to show to receive the beads.
An alligator? A musical note? Harry Conick Jr.? |
Harry Conick, Sr?
|
Okay, what about a magnolia?
|
Oooh, I like the idea of Harry Connick Jr. on my behind!:-D

A magnolia is near the top of my list - we had a magnolia tree in our yard and I think they are just beautiful.
|
You could have an Aaron Neville-like spot put above your eyebrow!
|
I like the map idea a lot.
Rather than a star where New Orleans is how about a small Phoenix rising? mm |
Maybe a King Cake with a little baby protruding...
I would hesitate to put a beignet on my butt... I already have too many of them there ;) The Neville idea is awesome! Very subtle yet very New Orleans. |
