NEW ORLEANS SWAMP TOURS?

I know, I know, there are no swamps in New Orleans. What I really want is info/recommendations on Bayou tours just outside New Orleans. Would prfer to stay away from larger commercial ventures. Any ideas

Last June my husband and I did the Jean Lafitte Swamp tour right outside of New Orleans (1 hr from French Quarter) It was the highlight of our trip We thoroughly enjoyed it and it began raining while we were on the boat but it didnt bother anyone. We got great photos and would definitely do again.

Dear Barry: I live in the New Orleans area and, tho' swamp tours are not my cup of tea (every mosquito in this part of the Gulf South already has my address and invariably hones in on me); but for those of you for whom the bugs have not yet developed an appetite there are a number of companies that run swamp tours in various directions (and usually with VERY knowledgable personnel). The Tourist Commission office on Jackson Square (across the street from St. Louis Cathedral) should be able to set you up with a tour to your taste (and I hope YOU won't taste too good to our mosquitoes). Joan

I wish I could remember the name of the tour my boyfriend and I just took this spring, however if you will inquire of the hotel staff they should be able to direct you to the tour that stops at one of the home's in the bayou. Miss Mary prepares lunch for the tour participants and shows off her home and surroundings. The tour captain throws marshmallows to the alligators. It is a small outfit with small boats. I hope you can find out the name. If my boyfriend remembers, I'll write back.

Have fun.
CJ
