Tauck Tours to Italy???

Karen, my husband and I are considering a Tauck Tour to Hawaii in the Fall. I've read so much about people wanting to go to Hawaii on an economy trip, but we want first class. We have been talking about this trip since we were married 15 years, the idea was to go for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Well, two of our children were in college at that time so it never happened. Well, we're now looking at our 32nd anniversary in May and we are serious about this trip now.
From what I've read, though, it's almost blasphemy to take a tour! We are in our mid 50s and we're not adventuresome in that we are not inclined to rent a car and venture into an area unknown to us. We prefer to take a tour where someone else gets us to the right places and puts us in the best hotels. The brochure I have of this year's tours by Tauck seem to indicate they include the most popular activities for sightseeing, get you into five star hotels and include most of the expensive meals. That's for us!
Have you perchance ever gone to Hawaii on Tauck? Do you have any additional comments about this tour company? I know it's expensive, but we're ready to treat ourselves and we're planning far ahead.
Do they plan your air travel, or do you do that through your travel agent? We're from CT and the airfare is going to be exhorbitant, I would imagine. Are the actual prices in the brochure negotiable at all, or are there no deals?
Also, we were thinking of flying to the West Coast, staying over a night in maybe S.F. to minimize fatigue and help us with jet lag. The same on the way back. We were looking at the 8 day tour of 3 islands (Oahu, Kauai and Maui). From what I've read, though, it sounds like it's too much to cover in that period of time. I don't want to spend an excessive amount of time traveling from one island to another. My husband doesn't think he could take more than 8 days sightseeing! I was looking at the 13 day tour of 4 islands, but that sounds like too much to cover in that period of time. do you have any advice for me?
