New Orleans Summer Hotel Rates?

We visited New Orleans a couple of years ago and got a great rate at Royal Sonesta mid July (about $100 night). We're considering returning this summer but I'm showing the cheapest rate over $200 at this hotel (which we love). Do summer prices typically drop closer to the summer in New Orleans? It's always been the off season in the past - if I wait do you think I'll get a lower rate? Any other hotels you'd recommend if not? We want to be in the french quater and like a high end feel at a discounted price.

Anyone? I'm just trying to budget the trip and wondering if I can expect rates to drop as the summer approaches.

Typically they do go down from June-August/early September. Try searching for a Good Times Guide and the Summer Sizzling Specials coupon book for New Orleans. Good luck!

I think it's too early.

Also, there may be a convention during the dates you need. That's one reason rates may not go down as much as normal.

I'd call the Sonesta and ask if they can go ahead and honor the summer rate IF they've even set one.

We stayed in mid August and got a terrific rate at the Ritz. I couldn't find my notes but I believe it was about $200 a night for a suite! Since we have two kids, this was just fantastic. But it was very hot and not very touristy at the time.

Once you get closer to your travel dates, deals will abound. As mentioned prior, a convention may cause problems but if your travel plans are flexible you should do OK. Be patient.

I got a great rate last year for a suite at the Windsor court for early June. I believe we booked in late Feb/March, and had to reconfirm a month out so it's probably too soon.
