Hello everyone. My boyfriend and I will be heading to New Orleans for the first time in November. Can anyone recommend anything we MUST NOT MISS. We have limited time (two full days and 3 nights)so we won't be able to see it all. If there are any restaurants, shops, sites, etc. that you all think we should see, please post!

With 2 days, I'd spend my time in the FQ for the most part. Maybe go out to the Garden District for an afternoon.

Beyond that, it is hard to give a good response without knowing more about you - your interests, budget, etc. What may be of interest to me (or anyone else) may not interest you in the least, so the recommendations wouldn't be helpful.

You might want to check out frommers.com - go to destinations and then New Orleans. They have sample itineraries you can check out and see what appeals to you. Then if you come back and ask some more detailed questions, people will probably be able to help you out more.

I can't imagine a trip to NO without a meal at Commander's Palace - specifically a Sunday brunch, if you'll be there on a weekend.

French Quarter with emphasis on Jackson Square, Garden District, Riverfront area, Katrina tour, Audubon Zoo and Park

Some other things if they interest you:
National D-Day museum, New Orleans Museum of Art, River cruise

Restaurants: Cafe Du Monde for beignets and coffee, Commander's Palace, Emeril's, or K-Pauls for a memorable New Orleans meal. Mother's or Acme Oysters for local flavor.

This will be more than enough to cover two days.

By Jackson Sq, the Church, St. Louies Cathedral-fabulous. And a block or two from there there is "The hotel with the corn-cob iron fence" That's the name of the place. the fence is unforgetable, if you can find it.

The corn cob fence is at the Cornstalk Hotel - 915 Royal St

There is a "sister" fence in the Garden District.

One more thing - Preservation Hall!
