New Orleans Embassy Suites

Has anyone stayed at the Embassy Suites on Julia Street in the warehouse district? We have a good rate, and my husband is an Embassy Suites fan. We are somewhat familiar with New Orleans, and have stayed at 5 or 6 different hotels in the Central Business District and the French Quarter in the past. Any comments on this Embassy Suites? Thank you

Iwas in New Orleans last week and stayed at the Marriot on Canal street, with a colleague staying at the Embassy Suites. We though for the money, you are better off at the Embassy Suites. The cooked to order breakfast sure beats a $20.00 room service breakfast at the Marriot. Also, from 5:30 to 7 or so is a free happy hour! The only drawback is that you are a 1/2 mile or so from the French Quarter. But you will not spend anywhere near the money on taxis that you will save on the room. P.S. It is very hot and humid!

Terri -- thanks for the response. Anyone else out there with an opinion?

It's a typical Embassy Suite hotel. Nothing better, nothing worse and zero New Orleans flavor. The location would be the biggest drawback to me. It's better suited for the convention crowd than it is for people who want to visit the Quarter. However, it's certainly close enough to walk (when the weather's nice) or use taxis so that drawback wouldn't be enough to not recommend the place.

John's right! The Embassy suite is within walking distance of the Quarter. We stayed at the Hotel Inter-Continental on St. Charles Ave. over Easter and went to the D-Day Museum which is close to the Embassy Suites. The walk wasn't bad at all, from the hotel to the musuem and walked back to the Quarter for dinner. If you do walk, it could be quite an ordeal on a hot day. If your planning a trip this summer you might consider walking to catch the street car on St. Charles Ave or take a cab. John might know about catching the riverfront streetcar from the Embassy Suites and how safe it would be. Good luck!!
