New Orleans Advice
I have previous booked reservations to vacation in the French Quarter October 15th-19th. I'm not sure how severe the damage is from Hurricane Isaac. Does anyone know if it will be up and running by mid October? I don't know if I should cancel the vacation. I would hate to go and not be able to do much.
I need to know ASAP. I would appreciate thoughts on this. I hope it's up and running because they will need tourist money to help replenish their funds.

October 15th is 6 weeks from now. Because the areas of the city that most tourists visit are on higher ground to begin with, I imagine NO will be "up and running" in a few days. So my advice would be to go, and enjoy yourself!

There are bars on Bourbon Street that didn't bother to close for Isaac. (also one that never closed for Katrina, but, that's another story).
As soon as power is restored to areas where it's out, the city will be up and running quickly.

The Quarter was one of the areas that suffered the least amount of damage because there aren't too many trees and all the wires are buried underground. We actually evacuated to the Quarter knowing that it's in a pretty good pocket within the city. Things are by and large back to normal here. By October, any lingering kinks will be knocked out. That is, unless we get another storm. ;-) You'll be fine - I wouldn't worry.
