RioMar in the Warehouse district ( a short walk from the quarter) surpassed all the very well known touristy places when we were in New Orleans. Food is stunning. Prices are great. Must haves: Panamanian Ceviche, Louisiana Gulf shrimp "al ajillo". Have eaten seafood around the world - this place is one of the best!!

Depends what you mean by non tourist restaurants. The best restaurants in town are frequented by the locals and tourists alike.
Dress well and eat late at Galatoire's
for a real "local scene". It gets pretty raucus.
The scene at Bayona is trendy, but the food is so good you couldn't care who else is eating there.
The great thing about NO is that it is hard to find bad food at any of the "known" places.

I highly recommend a restaurant called Brightsen's, which is away from the French Quarter and off the beaten path
Frankly, when it comes to New Orleans, I think you probably are better off with the well-known (although not necessarily touristy) places. I also highly recommend Bayona, mentioned above, and I had one of the best meals I've ever had at Commander's Palace.

As a relative N'awlins native (over 30 years) - I would second the comment about Brightsen's.
I would also add La Crepe Nanou - a small French bistro in the uptown area(Prytania and Robert, which is between Jefferson and Napoleon Avenues) just a couple of blocks off of St. Charles toward the river.
I love the paneed veal and my husband orders the mussels for an appetizer (and sometimes dessert!) and the sweetbreads. I don't think they take reservations, so get there early on a weekend, or just enjoy the evening air with a glass of wine on their streetside tables.
We now live overseas, but this is one of our "must-do's" when we are back in NO in the summer.
Across the Eckerd's parking lot from Crepe Nanou is the Upperline Restaurant, which is also very good and a little more "New Orleans-y." Also a little dressier.

I suggest Cannon's for a restaurant. It's on St. Charles Avenue, I believe, and it has good sandwiches and salads, but that's not all.
If you're there, you absolutely have to go to Bon-Ton. It has the best steak I have ever had. It's downtown. Although it's a chain' L'Madeline is a great place for breakfast.
Also, visit Cafe Du Monde! The beignets are great. The original one is in the French Quarter. This is the only "tourist" restaurant that I think I have mentioned.
Don't limit yourself to downtown or the French Quarter. New Orleans, being the old city that it is, is zoned strangely. THere are some small yet very good restaurants in the Garden District and that area.
Oh, one more place! Deannie's is great, esp. for seafood. But it isn't very nice. Although not a tourist site, its very crowded, especially at dinner. One of the locations is right by lake Pontchartrain.
Wow, that was alot! I hope it helps

Since no one addressed your golf query, try these sites for a list.

English Turn is a fabulous course where the pros play but it is private & I'm not sure how you would get in. Worth a call to see. It is on the West Bank across the river from the city.
Lots of people use the public course at City Park. Much easier to get to from most places in the city.
After eating all our good food, you'll need the exercise!!
