Welcome. Bus service in much of the US is not very good - and unfortunately except on a few routes, train service is worse. Bus service is mostly available in New England from major city to major city only - and much of New Hampshire is not easy to reach by bus.
You can take a bus from Boston to Manchester, NH or Concord, NH (the state capital) but from there, there is not much service.

Maybe there are some guided tours? If so they would be bus tours. Perhaps others might know the names of some of the companies that offer such tours.
One big problem I can see is timing. Even if such tours exist, they are not so plentiful that they would be frequently scheduled *except* perhaps in leaf viewing season which, for New Hampshire would be from about now through mid-late October.

You don't say when you are going. Bus tours will be now through leaf season - and the rest of the year will be sparse. I know you don't want to drive - but we are basically a nation that depends on cars and planes for most travel. there are MANY places you can;t get to by public transit.
There is Greyhound buses - but this is for people traveling from one larger town to another and will be all highways - with a stop every couple of hours. Have no idea if they do anything in New Hampshire.
Honestly can;t imagine how to do this without a car.
Also- how will the weather be when you are there. Unless you are going within the next month or so you start to run into very chilly and even winter weather.

There is a company called Maine Day Trip that can arrange a private tour of the region by car. www.mainedaytrip.com
I have heard the tours are good but do not have any personal experience.
Portland has day-trips by boat to nearby islands when the weather cooperates. Another possiblity is to take a regional bus from Portland to Portsmouth, NH and poke around there for the day. It is a nice costal town.
There are some local companies that offer tours of the area, example, but they have specific dates so I think you'd have to browse the web. Try `bus tour portland maine' or `foilage tour portland maine' (to be sure you don't get portland oregon).

You CAN get around New Hampshire by bus, but you'll have to backtrack to Boston (or at least to Portsmouth) to do so. Here's a list of links to providers of bus transport in New Hampshire, including a GENERAL idea of what cities they service. You'll have to check a map for what cities you want to visit, and then check the links for what cities they go between.

As you can see, there's a LOT of bus service in New Hampshire. You just have to look for it.
