Nevada City...Deer Creek Inn?
Anyone stayed here recently, that could share a review?
Or anywhere else in Nevada City that you enjoy? This will be a winter trip.
Thanks!
(ps. would chains be likely to be needed to Nevada City in mid-winter?)

We stayed at the Deer Creek Inn over Christmas a few years ago and loved it. Our room was very comfortable and the breakfast was great - very tastey and a lot of choices. We were up early both mornings and had a good time chatting with the owner while waiting for breakfast. The house is right along the creek and has some nice views.
There is another place in Nevada City that we enjoy called the Northern Queen Inn. It is more of a motel, so totally different experience from the Deer Creek Inn. It is in a picturesque spot though, with a restaurant overlooking a small waterfall and some nice areas to wander around.
We have family up in that area, so the Northern Queen Inn fits our needs pretty well - comfy place to sleep, a little space of our own to escape to, and a nice setting. It may be more basic than what you are looking for though.
As for snow, it does snow at that elevation, but generally not a lot. If you aren't going any higher, then chances are really slim that you would need chains. If it does snow, it rarely snows more than a few inches at a time and then the plows will be out to clear the road. I've gone up to that area most Christmases in the past 30 years and never needed chains.

Thank you so much! Helps a lot as it's been a decade since I stayed at the Deer Creek. (different owners)
And a long while in general in Nevada City.
I think this time we're looking for a romantic spot...so sounds like it fits the bill. Have heard nice things about Emma Nevada House too & the Red Castle. But the rooms seem more like our style at the Deer Creek, so will probably give it a whirl. Thanks again!
(Ps. have been having prob's finding my threads...mabye posted to US instead of Calif...not sure)

Hi Daydreamer, just to help you with Fodor's. There is no California Board. IF the title of the thread indicates it is regarding California when Fodorites do a search they should be able to pull the threads regarding California. If the title does not indicate California probably using the search box will not pull up the thread.
All threads regardless of the title that are posted on the US Board go on the US Board.
Anytime you want to pull up your previous threads or posts to other threads just click on your name which is on the upper left hand side of the screen next to "Welcome". You will then see everything you have ever posted on the left side of your screen.
Regarding Nevada City, I haven't been there for awhile. I believe that the Northern Queen Inn is where I have stayed (always due to family funerals unfortantly). If you drive further on Hwy 49 to sightsee such as up to Sierra City do be aware of the black ice on the highway. Be alert and drive carefully. Have a fun time!!

Thanks! Guess I thought that if you highlighted Calif while posting, that then later, it could be pulled up simply by highlighting Calif again.
But clearly, I'm confused lately, at least! Used to use it fine.
Altho' admittedly more for Canada than here. Thanks again.
Too bad you've only been to Nevada City area primarily for sad reasons. I hope that changes one day.
And thanks for the tip on the black ice. I do hope to avoid that.
All the best...

Something is telling me that we had Jolene's Room - but I am not positive. I could be mixing up the names of a couple places we stayed. It was right up the stairs on the left. The room faced the street and had a little bay window. The room had a clawfoot tub in an alcove in the room - quite romantic.
If the weather is good, a trip up Hwy 49 to Downieville and Sierra City is fun. You gain elevation quickly though, so they get a lot more snow at those elevations.
