Spending our 5th anniversary in Savannah. Staying 2 nights at Magnolia Place B&B. Will only be in Savannah for 48 hours, so I'm looking for the best things to do. I saw a few recommendations on this board to eat at Elizabeth's on 37th, so I made reservations. What else (sights and restaurants) do you recommend for a laid-back couple in their mid 30s who love historic cities? Is my B&B choice good?... never been to Savannah. (Ballastone looked very nice, but also extremely pricey.) I'd appreciate any advice.

Your choice of restaurants is perfect. Superb! Spend a day wandering the waterfront area; shops, museums, cafes, entertainment, etc. Spend the second day walking the historic area. Get a walking tour brochure at the Tourist Information Office.The old buildings and gardens are gorgeous. Be sure to wander the old cemetary. Some of the headstones are very old and you will recognize some of the names from your Early American History. Beautiful, beautiful City. Happy Anniversary.

Walk the squares, eat at the Old Pink House (either upstairs or the first-class tavern down), and if you've read "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" or seen the movie, take the tour. Definitely worth it. Stay away from River St--pure low-rent tourist trash and sleaze every step of the way. We recently spent four days in Savannah and River St was the only ill-spent time. A great city.

We ate at the Chart House and enjoyed it very much. We stayed at Ballastone and it was beautiful but then again, I didn't ask my husband how much it cost so I was able to enjoy it more!

You may want to try a Carriage Ghost Tour at night. Not usually our style but it was a lot of fun for something different. Have a great time - it's a beautiful city!

The Lady and Sons, hands down. Consistently delicious Southern food with a touch of experimental fun. Best cheese biscuits ever, too! It's on Market Street.

Take a walking tour! Great way to see the city, and there are a good selection of choices. We did the garden walk, it was fantastic.

Savannah also has great free shuttle buses, but we chose to take one of the tour trolleys that offered unlimited stops and starts, so we got some city history along the way.

Had a delightful lunch at a tea room run by Savannah College of Art and Design.

I don't know anything about Magnolia place; we stayed at The Planter's Inn, right on Reynolds Square. It was a nice B&B; not super fancy, had a nice size room, wine reception in the afternoon and it wasn't very expensive.

Thanks for the advice on restaurants and things to do. I really appreciate it (and will have to make some decisions since we're only there 2 nights). I was hoping to find someone who stayed at Magnolia Place Inn, but oh well. This is a very helpful message board.

Elizabeths is awesome! As far as the historic district, I recommend taking a tour first then going back on foot to the places you really want to see. We tried to walk first and didn't even know what we were looking at. The tour guides point out interesting things and tell you about movies that were filmed in the different houses and areas in the historic district. There is also free public transportation called SCAT. It's a green trolly that makes it's stops around the historic district every 10 minutes. So, you could take a guided tour then hop and SCAT to get back to the places you want to take pictures of or spend more time at. We were just there last week and that's what we did!
