Lois,
I stayed at the lodge in October. It was nice, but it depends why your staying in that area. I wrote a trip report about it. Dinner there was wonderful, and the rooms were nice, but small. Make sure you get one with a fireplace-it gets cold at night!
Hope this helps,
Tracey

Tracey -I think that I saw your trip report and enjoyed it very much. I remember thinking that I wish I could ask you more about the lodge. I think that you mentioned that you would have prefered staying in Hilo at a B&B. Could you tell me why? Also, was there a reason you weren't that happy with the lodge, aside from the small room size?
I was thinking about reserving the small cottage called TuTu's Place. It is about 1 block from the lodge. It has 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a sitting room with a fireplace. Are you familiar with the cottage? And, were the breakfasts good? I will be going with 2 teenagers who love to eat!
The reasons I was thinking about this lodge are 1) It is close to Volcanoes National Park, which is convenient if we want to see it at night, and 2) It seemed like a nice place and a bit of a change of pace from the resorts we will be staying at. Please tell me why you think we would be better off in Hilo?
I hope to hear from you. Thanks for taking the time to reply!
