need opinion on hotel provincial

I've booked two rooms at this hotel, and I've since read that it's fine but beware certain rooms. Does anyone know which ones I should avoid? Thanks

I think we're all confused because you've never mentioned a CITY.

And if this is a hotel in France, you might want to re-post on the Europe board....

gaelle,

We've stayed at the Provincial many times.

The hotel, we feel, offers a real "New Orleans" experience, built as it is in five or six old buildings. Many of the rooms open onto or have a view of one of the patios or pools, but there are some which have a view of the inner courtyard parking lot.

You might request a room with a good view. If you are bothered by noise, ask for a room not located by the pool, or overlooking the Decatur Street side.

(However, we rather like the Decatur street side, since you can look down on the Gazebo outdoor restaurant, and listen to the Dixieland!)

All in all, the Provincial is our old favorite in NO, for location, charm, ect.

Have a great trip!

Hi gaelle-

I love the Hotel Provincial. It's a very nice place with a wonderful bell staff and the location can't be beat. Unlike Byrd, I would avoid Building 5 which faces Decatur because it tends to be musty. But the rooms in 5 are also bigger and very nice. A table in the courtyard is a great place to have a bottle of wine or sit with a cup of coffee and the paper. Enjoy your stay. I'm jealous.

Four friends and I just returned from our trip to New Orleans Monday and we stayed at the Hotel Provincial. We loved it. We had building 5 which I know a lot of posters do not like but we had no problems. We loved our views of the river and did not have problems with noise (of course a hurricane before bed helps a lot!). We did not hear our fellow guests in the rooms next door. It was a very convenient location and we were pleased we had chosen this hotel. Do take advantage of the courtyard. We, too, enjoyed bringing drinks back and unwinding in the evenings. Enjoy your trip! Wish I could go back!

It has been several years but we would choose this hotel again when we return.Ideal location for walking and exploring, close enough but not too close to Bourbon St. We were in the old ice house, the stone bldg behind the main one.
Have heard several reports of this hotel being haunted but don't remember which part or by what!
