We will be in Baltimore, perhaps on July 6 or 7 and need some good ideas on what to see. We would like to work in a tour of Camden Yards and maybe a cruise of some sort.

Any other ideas? We like historical stuff, Civil/Revolutionary War.

From the Inner Harbor Visitor's Center you can get a walking tour of downtown sites, most are either Civil or Revolutionary War related. See this link for Heritage Tour info as well as other sights along the tour that you can also explore on-your-own:

*Carroll Mansion

These are all in walking distance of the Inner Harbor. The Heritage Walk is a good overview of the above sites. The seperate USS Const. tour is quite interesting if you haven't been on a ship like that before.

There's also Ft. McHenry, which you can take a water taxi to, as well as Fell's Point and Federal Hill, two historic neighborhoods near the Inner Harbor which have restaurants/pubs in historic buildings. The Fells Point Ghost Tour is a painless way to get some (colorful) history lessons.

The National Aquarium is right at the Inner Harbor, and is very nice. Second Fort McHenry.

Carroll Mansion is not really within walking distance, IMO, or you could say it's a very long walk.

Mt. Vernon Square, which is about 10 blocks north of the Harbor on Charles Street, has a Washington Monument which predates the one in DC. You can climb to the top for a nice view, and the square is very nice too. It's next to the Walters Art Gallery, which is worth a look, also.

From inner harbor, take a water taxi to fells point for a meal, cool area.

Buy an all day water taxi pass. It is a good way to get around.

smetz- This Carroll Mansion is part of the harbor area Heritage Walk, as are the nearby Shot Tower and Star Spangled Banner house. The walk is about a 2 mile r/t--more enjoyable in the morning than the heat of the afternoon this time of year.

hi tmagyari - they ought to call it the Heritage Hike, if Carroll Mansion is on it! I guess 2 miles sounds about right - is that just from the harbor to Carroll Mansion, or is that a loop that includes the Star Spangled Banner House and Shot Tower (both in the opposite direction)? If it includes all of them, it would seem to me that it's more than 2 miles. I guess the other think I'm wondering is whether it includes the walking inside Carroll Park from Washington Blvd or wherever you'd enter the park - that in itself is not a short distance.

Oh! I thought it was the one in Carroll Park. Thanks for straightening me out on that tmagyari. Magnumholmes if you see this before your trip, please disregard my comments about the length of the walk.
