need help with weekend in pittsburgh

my husband and i will be in pittsburgh this weekend.we're going to go to the strip district part of the afternoon on saturday then have dinner at the fish market saturday night.does anyone have any suggestions of places that we can walk to or take a taxi if needed to maybe stop and have a drink or something later in the afternoon or before dinner?market square seems to have some nice places-or so i've read.we will be staying at the doubletree-no vacancies at the westin or sheraton station square.also,is the hilton located better to walk to more things than the doubletree?any advice is really appreciated.

The Doubletree is right next door to the Convention Center not to far from the strip district. The Hilton is located next to Pointe State Park. The park is lovely, and would make a nice stroll. There are alot of historical buildings and great architecture downtown. The doubletree is fine for the strip.Too bad it`s not next week-end your here because it`s the Reagetta(great fun). The Strip has some great places:Rollins Landing on Penn Ave.--"The Strip" microbrew--"Have a Happy Day Cafe"--all on Penn. There is Vahalla microbrew on Smallman St.--Donzi`s & Coconuts right on the water(river) .There is plenty of activity in the Strip. There is sidewalk dining-just look around and produce mkts.I`d be remiss if I didn`t mention Pramanti Bros. sandwiches(Smallman and !6th. or !8th.Street)-just go and look at them being made and eaten it`s a treat.are you in Pgh for a convention? attending something special.Station Square is a treat along with the Gateway Clipper Fleet. I don`t think the Hilton is better located unless your going to Pirate game or Point Park.Unless you just want to walk around don`t think Market Square is special.Friday nights the have entertainment at Market Sq.-that`s nice.If anything in perticular you want e-mail back to fodors and I`ll keep checking post.Go to www.In-pittsburgh.com the do have info on dining and entertainment.Hope this helps. Also the Penna. train Station is beautiful sight and clse to you, walk over and see it.

Carol, Have you considered a taxi over to the Southside?
We usually stay at the Sheraton-Southside and either hop a cab or drive the rental(depending on the availabilty of a designated driver!)over to Nick's Fat City-Pittsburgh's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (I think they have a website)...Great "piano bar".

A bit of an artsy area, too.
We liked Mario's Southside Saloon and Blue Lou's. This was about 4-5 years ago and I hear it's developed even more good restaurants, shops.

Try typing in "Pittsburgh" in the "search" area as I think we discussed "The Pitt" about a month or so ago.

"Youins" have a good time and pound some ICs for me.

I agree on the Southside. We just answered questions not too far back on "a Sat. night in Pgh.--look up in postings.I posted some info onmost of Pgh hot spots.Too bad you can`t feel comfortable putting your real e-mail on.If need be I will if you need any definite answers. There are so many exciting Pgh neighborhoods. There is a b&b on the southside-The MorningGlory Inn-if your interested.Hope this helps~

Hi, my husband and I will be in Pittsburgh for the first weekend in August 5-7 (which is a long weekend for Canadians). One of the postings here mentioned something about a Regatta - that sounds like fun since we both love to sail. Are there any special activities we should attend or look for? Will we need to book ahead or reserve for any of these events? We will be driving down from Toronto so we have a car but will there be problems finding parking downtown due to this event? Any traffic routes we should avoid? We are staying out near the airport so parking at the hotel is no problem. The various postings on dining suggestions have been very helpful. I'm looking forward to the trip!

The Regatta is thursday thru Sunday at Point Park -right where the 3 rivers merge. This is located downtown Pgh.You come in from the airport on #279 which is the Parkway, through the For Pitt tunnels right into downtown. What a beautiful sight. All activities are free, and no entrance fee. There are concerts and activities all day and night.Plenty of food booths. The Hilton Hotel is located right across from the Park -you can`t miss seeing either.there are parking garages downtown. You don`t have to make reservations for anything for the Regatta.Great fun esp. Sunday a.m. for the "Anything that Floats" contest. There is aways something gongon in Pgh.There is a website for the Regatta--I`ll try to find it.It would have the schedule of events listed.hope this helps. It`s either the largest in-land Regatta or 2nd.
