need help with weekend getaway in ct

I am looking to get away for the weekend without the kids end of January. Would like to travel no more than three hours from western jersey. My husband and I love manchester vt but don't want to travel that far this time. I am looking for a nice relaxing hotel/resort (spa? not health) with a nice town and activities (skiing, theater, whatever) to keep us somewhat enetertained. Anyone got any ideas...feel like I'm going aroung in circles with ideas. Saw Litchfield, ct area...what is it like in Late January. Any ski resorts in ct like stratton? Thanks for your input.

Connecticut has hills, Vermont has mountains. The skiing in CT doesn't even compare. The ski places are smaller and none of them have anything beyond Intermediate trails, even if they do label some trails as "Black Diamonds."

CT in late January (including Litchfield County) will be cold. On average it is in the low 30's, but it has been in single digits a lot lately and hasn't been above freezing in weeks. There are a lot of nice Inns and B&B's in the area, particularly in Washington, CT, and some are quite pricey.

Please look at the Mayflower Inn. It is located in Washington, CT. Nearby is a great antiqueing area. The hotel has spa facilities and it just lovely.

Thank you for your ideas. I guess well forget the skiing if it isn't worth it. I did see Mayflower inn listed....what are some neat things to do in this time of year in that area...although peace and quiet sounds good at this point....thanks, amy

Monhonk in New Paltz, NY is another option. Lots of activities, good food, relaxing surroundings and a short drive to Woodstock NY for an artsy atmosphere.

The reason I suggested Lenox is the Canyon Ranch Hotel/Spa is there. It's supposedly one of the best in the country (& also expensive but many off season...?). The town is also loaded with good restaurants & shopping. Here' a website with other hotel options.

http://www.usa-lodging.com/motels/ma...etts/Lenox.htm

I know several Fodorites have mentioned the Wheatleigh Inn which looks fabulous. (maybe try a text search for Wheatleigh Inn). I know the Blantyre is FANTASTIC but I believe closed for the winter.

I would also suggest you have a look at the karen brown website (karenbrown.com) for other ideas thta might even be closer.

Is Philadelphia an option? If you live in the 'burbs & want a getaway, you might find some good weekend rates at a hotel with an indoor pool, spa etc. Or what about a weekend in NYC? Le Parker Meridien has an indoor pool as does the Millenium UN. Just a thought.
